Brett Burton - PT, DPT, SCS, ATC, CSCS

Founder/Proactive Performance Coach

Brett Bio Profile Final.jpg

With an extensive background in physical therapy, sports medicine, and performance, Brett has had the opportunity to work with international leaders in the health and fitness space. Licensed in Physical Therapy, a Certified Athletic Trainer, a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy, and a B Strong Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Training Instructor, Brett is on a mission to revolutionize the health and fitness experience for people from all walks of life.

From the age of 10 years old, Brett always knew that he wanted to be a physical therapist. He saw the transformational impact that a therapist had on his sister who was born with special needs and decided that he would dedicate his life to making the same kind of impact on other people.

In order to pursue his goal, Brett attended the University of Nebraska where he attained his Bachelor of Science in Education and Human Sciences with a major in Athletic Training. He then went on to achieve his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Upon completing his Doctorate of Physical Therapy, Brett took up a position as a Physical Therapy Sports Resident at St. Luke’s Health System where he was introduced to blood flow restriction (BFR) and grew into the role of a staff therapist. He later transitioned to EXOS in Phoenix, AZ, and worked closely with athletes and corporate wellness clients, and serving on an interdisciplinary team with an emphasis on mindset, nutrition, movement, and recovery.

In 2018, he went on to study under Dr. Jim Stray-Gundersen of B Strong, who had personally studied under Dr. Yoshiaki Sato, the Japanese inventor of BFR. Brett set out to launch One Harmonic Motion to start teaching health and fitness professionals how to integrate BFR into their offering. He was ready to launch his brand in 2018 when he was diagnosed with cancer.

Due to the cancer, Brett experienced intense episodes of pain and loss of function. During his recovery process he began an in-depth study on techniques to improve his performance and recovery. While observing how his own body was reacting to the techniques he was implementing to restore his function, he began to realize that when the foundational elements of a healthy body are not functioning optimally, it is impossible to thrive – even for someone who is young, fit and healthy. His cancer experience had unlocked a deeper understanding of the human body. Building on his formal education and personal experiences, he was able to start laying the foundations of what is now known as ongoing proactive performance.

Brett went on to successfully launch One Harmonic Motion and, after seeing the substantial results that BFR was having on individuals with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, he developed a digital wellness program in order to replicate the results in others who had active muscle loss. The BFR Guided Training Program was launched with exceptional success and it was clear that it was time for a new brand with its own distinct identity to emerge.

Knowing what it felt like to be sick, weak, and struggling, Brett set out to build a holistic wellness program for individuals who have all but lost hope to maximize the full potential of their bodies with an innovative and proactive approach to taking charge of one's own lifestyle and well-being. And so – Somavive was born.

As Somavive has grown in meeting clients’ individual needs, Brett has expanded his experience with using different BFR systems in addition to B Strong. He started using Saga Fitness in 2021 and Kaatsu in 2022 after becoming a Kaatsu Specialist. With an innovative service offering that stands on elite-level performance concepts for those who need it most, Brett is confident that Somavive will continue to develop into a brand that can significantly impact the lives of many by offering strategic wellness strategies that last a lifetime.
